Amateur Radio Calendar

Hints and Tips....

This page is designed to allow you a quick and easy way to add, edit, delete, or simply view the  calendar.

For those that are a little more accustomed to manoeuvring around a menu selection, I will try to point out some of the more useful actions. Read below for a summary or click here for the most current documentation for the calendar.

Summary:

To simply view the calendar under the Public Access mode, you need only to select the calendar link from the ARES Website navigation panel.

To post upcoming events to the calendar, you will need to enter a valid username and password.

Once you are successful on entering the required username and password, you will be presented with the calendar and an additional menu of hotlinks at the bottom of the page below the calendar. These links will allow you limited administrative actions, import and export data, view unapproved events, search, ADD NEW ENTRY, and view a help screen.

The login page WILL remember the last user to log in, so if you return shortly after logging out, you will not need to log in again. You can also choose to have 'Windows remember your password by accepting the prompt, and the login next time will be that much simpler.

After gaining access to the Amateur Radio Calendar, you will see the opening screen that allows you the option to view the calendar, or select from the links at the top of the page to view the Amateur Radio Activity Calendar (this page), or to see the Complete Calendar Documentation (lengthy article) or to have an entry added or deleted for you..

Scrolling down the page to the calendar, you will see the current view. This will usually be the entire month, but you can select from a weekly, monthly or yearly view but simply clicking on the respective choice immediately under the calendar. Just select the point in time that you want to jump to, and the calendar will take you there. Please try to leave the calendar in the month view for others after you have completed if you have changed the view for yourself.

By passing your mouse over an existing entry, you can view the details for that entry. If you wish to view an entry that you made, you can simply left click your mouse (some may be required to double click) on the text within the calendar entry, and it will open up for you. YOU ARE ASKED TO ONLY EDIT OR DELETE YOUR OWN ENTRY! . PLEASE BE  CONSIDERATE!!

If you are successful on opening the text within the calendar, you will now have limited administrative choices. You can DELETE the entry, EDIT the entry, and you will have several other options.

If you are ADDING an entry, simply select ADD NEW ENTRY from the GO TO menu at the bottom of the page below the calendar. This will open a window, allowing you to make your entry. ONE WORD OF CAUTION , after you have typed in your details for your entry, and BEFORE you select save, be sure that you select the priority (Not usually required... ) for the entry, and SELECT THE CORRECT DATE for the entry. I will repeat this again, because it is often missed....SELECT THE CORRECT DATE for the entry. If you are entering a repetitive event such as a birthday or anniversary, then you will need to first choose the DAY followed by  the MONTH of the event. The YEAR in this case should be left to the current year, as this will be a repetitive entry, there is no need to select a year. (You do not enter as per example the year someone was born in this location) Following the entry of the CORRECT DATE you can now select the REPEAT tab at the top of the entry window. Simply select the type of repeat required. (I.E.: Yearly...) and the frequency of the repeat. If the event is to repeat every year, or month or day, then select 1 or the default 0 for the frequency. It will automatically be posted each cycle. If on the other hand, the event is only to occur every 2'nd or third cycle, then select 2 or 3 respectively. IT IS ALWAYS GOOD PRACTICE TO SELECT A REPEAT END DATE. Even for a yearly function such as a birthday, selecting an end date no more than 20 years in to the future will ensure that the entry will outlive the platform it has been entered on. Once you are satisfied with your entry details you can select SAVE. By the way, the entries will accept hyperlinks.....

You can view your entry by scrolling down below the save button and select from the GO TO menu : MY CALENDAR. If you need to make changes to your entry, simply click on your entry in the calendar window, and you will have the opportunity to edit or delete your entry.

There is a HELP button on the bottom menu that may also assist you. Use the SEARCH button to quickly find a persons name or an event.

The 'CLICK here to have a Calendar Event added for you or your group...' link at the top of the page will allow you to quickly send an email should you have a specific request, or need to report a problem.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING THE OTHER COMMANDS ON THE GO TO MENU UNLESS YOU ARE COMFORTABLE AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING...

If you have a specific request and cannot find the answer here or in the complete documentation, please email me, and I will attempt to answer your question, or deal with the issue. Enjoy... Les (VE3PL)
